The Universality of Initial Conditions for Globular Cluster Formation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We investigate a simple model for globular cluster (GC) formation. We simulate the violent relaxation of initially homogeneous isothermal stellar spheres and show that it leads to the formation of clusters with radial density profiles that match the observed profiles of GCs. The best match is achieved for dynamically unevolved clusters. In this model, all the observed correlations between global GC parameters are accurately reproduced if one assumes that all the clusters initially had the same value of the stellar density and the velocity dispersion. This suggests that the gas which formed GCs had the same values of density and temperature throughout the universe. Subject headings: globular clusters: general — methods: N -body simulations

Formation of Globular Clusters in Hierarchical Cosmology
We study the formation of globular clusters in a Milky Way-size galaxy using a high-resolution cosmological simulation. The clusters in our model form in the strongly baryon-dominated cores of supergiant molecular clouds in the gaseous disks of high-redshift galaxies. The properties of clusters are estimated using a physically-motivated subgrid model of the isothermal cloud collapse. The first ...
متن کاملResidual gas expulsion from young globular clusters
The results of N -body simulations of the effects of the expulsion of residual gas (that gas not used in star formation) from very young globular clusters is presented. Globular clusters of a variety of initial masses, Galactocentric radii, concentration and initial mass function slope with star formation efficiencies of < ∼ 50% were simulated. The residual gas was expelled by the action of mas...

The universality of the globular cluster luminosity function (GCLF) contrasts the variation seen in the specific frequency (SN). The variation in SN has been shown to follow a linear relation with LX for brightest cluster galaxies Blakeslee 1997. Further, the variation of SN with galactic radius within individual giant ellipticals is seen to be a constant fraction of the gas density McLaughlin ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulations of Globular Cluster Formation
We examine various physical processes associated with the formation of globular clusters by using the three-dimensional Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) code. Our code includes radiative cooling of gases, star formation, energy feedback from stars including stellar winds and supernovae, and chemical enrichment by stars. We assume that, in the collapsing galaxy, isothermal cold clouds form ...
متن کاملThe initial conditions of young globular clusters in the LMC
N -body simulations are used to model the early evolution of globular clusters. These simulations include residual gas which was not turned into stars which is expelled from the globular cluster by the actions of massive (> 8M⊙) stars. The results of these simulations are compared to observations of 8 LMC globular clusters less than 100 Myr old. These observations are used to constrain the init...
